S.J. Farrer
Sarah-Jayne Farrer is a writer, public speaker, independent researcher, and practising occultist. Her work focuses on the darker strata of folklore, magic, and the occult imagination. She combines careful historical research with direct, hands-on experience, drawing on interdisciplinary sources that include archival material, ethnographic folkloric tradition, and her own magical practice.
Although much of her work is rooted in place, it also explores forms of visionary work that are not confined to physical location alone, but extend into other modes of perception, encounter, and engagement with the unseen.
Through her writing and talks, Sarah-Jayne aims to connect her research with personal, lived experience. She works at the boundary between what can be seen and what lies beneath the surface, exploring untamed folklore and the hidden currents that shape both place and self. As artist Max Beckmann observed:
“What is important to me in my work is the identity that is hidden behind so-called reality. I search for a bridge from the given present to the invisible, rather as a famous cabalist once said, ‘If you wish to grasp the invisible, penetrate as deeply as possible into the visible.’ ”
She is also the founder of the EDGEWAYS community, which brings together experts in folklore, art, and science with historians, archaeologists, and esotericists, where we explore the paths less taken, the forgotten stairwells of history, and the unanswered questions of art, science, and magic every Saturday evening.
