Fernanda Horvath Réus

Fernanda Horvath Réus is a journalist and researcher with a strong interest in traditional witchcraft and an initiate of Quimbanda de Angola. She holds a degree in journalism from the Universidade de Sorocaba (UNISO, Brazil) and is currently completing postgraduate studies in Cultural and Entertainment Journalism at the Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo.
Her research began as an undergraduate thesis and grew into a full-length work of narrative journalism, Batismo de Fogo, documenting the path of the initiate within a Quimbanda de Angola tradition. Since then, she has continued investigating marginalised cults and spiritualities, working at the intersection of reportage and academic research, with particular attention to the relationship between witchcraft, communication, and the cult of the dead.
Fernanda is a quarterly columnist for Revista A Língua da Serpente, where she writes on esotericism from an academic perspective, and a member of NUPEMBO (Research and Study Nucleus on Magic, Witchcraft & Occultism). In 2025, she received an honorary doctorate (Doutora Honoris Causa) from ASBRAC and FACTEFERJ, in recognition of her research and journalistic work on marginalised cults and spiritualities.
Born in Boston (MA) and raised in the São Paulo countryside, Brazil, she believes that every faith pushed to the margins has a story that deserves to be told with rigour, not sensationalism.
